A POPULAR expat photographer who was left paralysed after a horrific Costa del Sol motorbike accident has made another important step on his road to recovery.

David Toms has today moved to a cosy apartment at Mijas Costa where he will have round-the-clock attention from three carers.

Jackie Stone of the David Toms Support Fund told the Euro Weekly News, “David and his cat, Shiva, have finally moved into a nice cosy apartment in Mijas Costa where David will have 24-hour care.

She went on: “He is settling into his new home today so anyone who wants to visit him can do so from next weekend. It’s now closer to all of us, so visiting him will be easier.”

Jackie asked: “Please let us know via our Facebook page when you thinking of coming so we can let his carers know.”

David’s career behind the lens stopped in an instant on the morning of July 15, 2016 when he lost control of his Honda Fireblade on a patch of sand spilt on the Istan road.

A very experienced biker who knew the road well, David was hit by an oncoming car and sustained severe spinal injuries. He says he was not going fast.

Initially rushed to the Costa del Sol hospital, several days later he was moved to the Carlos Haya regional hospital in Malaga where he was given the devastating news that he would never regain any movement from the shoulders down.

Once transferred to a specialist spinal injuries unit in Toledo, his determination led to impressive results, including some movement in his lower left arm and left leg.

David was then transferred to a temporary unit in Granada before settling into a care home near Alhaurin de la Torre prior to his most recent move today.
