Irish woman arrested after disabled, homeless man found murdered in tourist resort in Spain

SPAIN’S National Police force has arrested a 50-year-old Irish woman in connection with the death of a wheelchair-bound homeless man who was found strangled and burned after allegedly being sprayed with an accelerant.

The 61-year-year old victim was wheelchair-bound after having his lower limbs amputated and was well-known in the tourist town of San Bartolome de Tirajana in Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands.

Police also arrested a 43-year-man, a Spanish national, in connection with the murder. Both are residents in the south of Gran Canaria.

The pair were arrested following an intensive two-month investigation after the homeless Romanian man was found where he slept.

He was found strangled to death and burned after being sprayed with an accelerant.

It is reported that when police searched the home of the pair they recovered several items of clothing that they wore on the day they allegedly committed the crime in January.

The pair have been detained in custody and are due to face the courts.
