MOTORISTS are being warned of the return of a scam that frequently targets tourists in hire cars.
In the latest incident on the Costa del Sol an elderly woman, who was alone in her car, was waiting to pull out onto the Mijas road near Fuengirola, when another car pulled up with three occupants.
One of the three got out and pointed at the victim’s front tyre. She got out to look, at which point another man snatched her handbag from the car before the three made their escape in a white car.
This sort of distraction theft occurs all around Spain, and frequently involves tourists in hire cars being targeted by people pointing out imaginary problems with their vehicles.
Police advice is to remain in your car and call 112 if you have any suspicions.
