A south-easterly wind is carrying the flames towards country road Carril de las Palominas near kilometre 11 of the A-7207 Torrox-Competa road.
A group of concerned onlookers has gathered and a fire-fighting plane was seen to pass overhead before a helicopter made its way to the scene.
A wildfire has also been declared in the Alpujarras this afternoon. Thirty-five specialist forest firefighters are on the scene alongside one firefighting helicopter.
