SPAIN’S tax agency has published figures showing which areas paid the most personal income tax in 2016.
The statistics show residents in Madrid, Barcelona and Pozuelo de Alarcon- a suburb of Madrid – paid the most tax.
Disposable income varied dramatically across the country, with residents in Madrid city having an average of €29,400, compared to the national average of €25,086, and €16,333 in Extremadura.
In the affluent northern Madrid urbanisation of La Moraleja, residents had an average disposable income of €113,000. This is followed by the Barcelona suburb of Vallvidrera-Tibidabo i Les Planes, where average income reaches €65,700.
