Murder investigation opened after 26-year-old Spaniard stabbed to death in UK

DAVID MARTINEZ, a 26-year-old man from Spain, has died after being attacked with a knife in the Leyton area of London.

He has been identified today (Thursday) by the Metropolitan Police after the fatal stabbing yesterday on Birkbeck Road at around 4.26 pm (local time).

Met Police officers, London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended and found a man suffering from knife injuries.

Mr Martinez died at the scene at 1710hrs. His next of kin has been informed.

Authorities have opened a murder investigation.

Police have said: “At this early stage, it is believed the fatal attack on the man took place at a nearby residential address. The victim then left the scene before collapsing in the street. It is believed the victim and suspect were known to each other.

“The incident is not believed to be gang-related.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“The Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating and appealing for witnesses to come forward.”

Anyone with information concerning this incident is urged to call police via 101 quoting CAD 5145/6 March or Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.

The incident has taken place amid growing pressures on Prime Minister Theresa May and the government over the growing number of stabbings and knife attacks in the country.

Between March 2017 and March 2018 there were 285 murders with bladed weapons in the UK, the highest figure since the registration of this type of events began in 1946.
