ACCORDING to a recent study carried out by Unespa, the Association of Spanish Insurance Agencies, the probability of an Alicante Province business suffering any type of burglary is 5.1 per cent lower than the national average.

While on the surface this is positive news, the study also highlights major differences in results when considering the different municipalities within the province.

For example, business owners in Elche should feel very safe as the city has been ranked as the third safest in the whole of Spain for this type of crime, with a 45 per cent less chance of it happening.

At the other end of the scale is Torrevieja, ranked as one of the 30 most conflictive cities in the country, with a figure that is 18 per cent higher than the national average.
