NATIONAL POLICE officers have launched an investigation after thousands of euros were stolen from three churches in Benalmadena in two weeks.
Officers have begun probing the thefts, the first of which took place at the Arroyo de la Miel Baptist Church.
Pastor Eusebio Perez arrived to find the church entrance forced open and a safe with between €1,800 and €2,000 in collections missing. He said the church had never seen anything like it in its 20-year history.
Another break which took place at the Santa Domingo de Guzman church in Benalmadena Pueblo also saw thieves make off with money from collections. The Diocese of Malaga said that nothing else of any value was taken.
The third theft saw money taken following a break in at the Immaculate Conception church in Arroyo de la Miel. Police have not yet said if the thefts are connected as the investigation continues.
