Irishman drowns while on holiday with friends in Barcelona

A FAMILY man and footballer from Dublin, believed to be in his 30s, has drowned while holidaying with friends in Barcelo

Stephen Moylan, died on Thursday night, though the circumstances of his death have not been confirmed.

Two football matches in the capital were postponed last night (Saturday) out respect for Mr Moylan, who was involved with Beggsboro AFC and Dingle United in Cabra.

He reportedly played for Beggsboro in the Leinster Senior League.

The club posted online that it was “sad to report the shock news of the sudden death of our player Stephen Moylan’ adding that he was ‘a gentleman’, and played for the club the last number of seasons’.

The post continued that the club’s ‘thoughts and sympathies are with his partner Emma, his children and family and many friends at this sad time’.

It is understood his partner gave birth to another child recently.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, club secretary, Christy Coleman, said they were all shaken and devastated by the news.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance.
