A Russian man, 40, is currently being investigated for allegedly killing his neighbour’s cat and half-blinding another after a series of rows between the men.

Sources claim the incident occurred in Benidorm on January 11, but wasn’t reported to the police by the cats’ owner, a 41-year-old Dutchman, until last Wednesday.

Supported by animal association, Somos Gos, the complainant said he has been having problems with his neighbour for months, initially due to land disputes and later because the Russian man claimed that cats were getting into his property.

He said on January 11, he came home to find one of his cats dead in an armchair with multiple bleeding wounds and another left blind in its left eye.

The cat owner explained that they had had ‘endless’ arguments and he had even received death threats from his neighbour and was ‘afraid’ that he would lash out on him and his cats.

The Judicial Police of the National Police of Benidorm interviewed the alleged offender and confiscated a weapon.

The accused neighbour is set to appear in court after a motion was put in place for an alleged crime of animal abuse.

The seized weapon has been sent to the National Police’s scientific team to carry out the necessary tests in order to determine if the bullets match those found inside the deceased cat.
