SALVAMENTO Maritimo rescued a total of 340 immigrants travelling in five boats in the Alboran Sea during the early hours of this morning.
They were transferred to ports in Malaga (193), Motril (103) and Almeria (44), having reportedly left Morroco around the previous day.
A spokesman for the maritime rescue service said the migrants, rescued by the Guardamar Caliope and Dalvamar Hamal vessels, included 65 and 22 children.
While the majority were said to be ‘good health’, a spokesperson for the Red Cross confirmed several people required medical attention for slight hypothermia.
All of those rescued have been placed in a temporary reception centre at a port in Granada.
