AN online Mercadona coupon scam returns, once again, targeting online users to try and take their personal data, Spanish police have stated.
The Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guardia Civil’s GDT, Grupo de Delitos Telemáticos de la Guardia Civil, claim that the coupon frauds share a link to the ‘promotion’ through social networks and messaging applications, such as Whatssap.
The fake voucher is meant to be a one-hundred-euro free coupon to spend in Mercadona, in celebration of their ‘50th anniversary’.
The fraudsters attempt to steal people’s data by getting them to click on the fake link.
The Mossos d’Esquadra and the GDT have warned the general public via Twitter, to not click on the link, ‘they want your data’.
This kind of online scam is also known as ‘phishing’.
This is not the first time this scam has circulated online; the fraudsters have targeted supermarkets and clothing stores many times in the past.
The popular supermarket chain is not the only company to have suffered this scam, Zara is another victim of this trick.
