Costa del Sol’s Yorkshire Linen plans charity events in aid of local cancer patient’s treatment

APPEAL: Soraya has Leukaemia and ovarian cancer CREDIT: Bradley-Perez family

A MIJAS and Marbella-based business has organised a series of fundraising events to aid a local woman who has fought cancer for two years but lacks the money for life-saving treatment.

Yorkshire Linen has said they are now taking part in the Save Soraya campaign in aid of Soraya Bradley-Perez, 32, who has both Leukaemia and ovarian cancer.

Steph Smith, of Yorkshire Linen, told Euro Weekly News the money needed to be raised as quickly as possible if Soraya was to live.

“Many of us who work for Yorkshire Linen have got kids and I’m sure we would all like the community to step up if our children were in this situation,” Ms Smith said.

“Our main goal is to get the money raised as quickly as possible. It would be great if locals here and schools could organise their own events too,” Ms Smith added.

Soraya needs around €500,000 to undergo immunotherapy treatment. The family has appealed to the Junta de Andalucia for funding but is waiting for a response.

A quiz and curry night has been organised at the Finca la Alegria in La Cala de Mijas for Friday January 25 at 8pm.

A sponsored walk of five kilometres has been organised from Yorkshire Linen’s Mijas store to Favells and back on Saturday January 26 at 9.30am. Entry is priced at €5 for adults and €2 for children with a dress code of bright and cheery.

Soraya was born in Malaga to a Spanish father and a British mother. She was working towards entering the art and design industry when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in July 2017.

She went into remission following several operations before being diagnosed with ovary cancer in November last year. Soraya was also told her Leukaemia had returned on Boxing Day.

Soraya was due to go to hospital for a bone marrow biopsy today (Monday). A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help raise money for her treatment.
