A 55-year-old man has died following an accident whilst climbing the Morro del Toix in Calpe. Emergency services were called to the scene around 12.15pm on Tuesday after witnesses saw the man collapse on the ground. According to reports, he was conscious at the time. Following his rescue he was evacuated by helicopter to the fire station in Benidorm where he was treated by paramedics. After trying to resuscitate and stabilise the climber for a number of hours, he was taken by ambulance to the Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa, where he died shortly afterwards.
