BRUTAL MURDER: Daughter arrested in connection with mother’s death in Spain

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with the brutal death of her mother, who was found naked with multiple stab wounds in a pool of blood at the family home in Girona.

The 53-year-old’s body was discovered at the foot of her bed at 9pm yesterday by her son, who contacted emergency services.

On arrival at the property in Banyoles, officers from Catalonia’s police force, The Mossos d’Esquadra, reportedly found a handwritten ‘farewell note’ believed to have been written by the 17 –year-old suspect.

A knife was also found in the room, which appeared to have been partially cleaned with a towel.

In light of the discoveries, officers from the Criminal Investigation Area (AIC) of Girona, began searching for the, who had disappeared, ‘because of her possible involvement’ in the death of her mother.

She was located and detained in Platja d’Aro, at 1.10pm this afternoon.

The victim’s body has been transferred to the area’s Institute of Forensic Medicine, where forensics will carry out an autopsy.

The Criminal Investigation Court of Girona has taken over the case.

Banyoles council has condemned the events, and decreed two days of official mourning and the suspension of all official acts.

Members of the public are asked to take part in a collective mark of respect at the town hall tomorrow at 12 noon.
