A CLIMATE of fear has descended on Mallorca’s taxi drivers following a spate of robberies with force.
The Association of the Autonomous Taxi of Mallorca (ASATM) and the Mallorcan Association of Autonomous Taxi Workers (AMTAT), attached to the Federation of Small and Medium-sized Companies (Pimem), have express their ‘great concern’ over the numerous violent robberies that drivers have suffered in less than a month.
The latest two incidents occurred in Palma at weekend, taking the toll to five in four weeks.
Presidents of ASATM, Biel Moragues, and AMTAT, Toni Cladera, have demanded the ‘competent authorities’ solve the issue as soon as possible, as taxi drivers are suffering ‘a climate of nervousness and fear’.
They have called for taxi fleets to be provided with anti-theft armoured screens and security cameras.
