SPAIN’S box office took a slight knock last year with the number of cinema goers dropping by 2 per cent and overall revenue by 1.9 per cent.
Nationally, the box office grossed €585.7 million, with 97.7 million tickets sold.
David Rodriguez, managing director of Comscore Spain which compiled the statistics, said the ‘dip in figures in not alarming’ given that the football World Cup was held in 2018, which kept Spaniards glued to their television sets.
Topping the chart of popular movies was Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom from Universal Pictures International, which premiered in Madrid and has a Spanish director, JA Bayona.
Rodriquez, said the Spanish connection ‘undoubtedly helped’ the film achieve its number one ranking.
In close second place is Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody.
