VAN FIRE: Fire crews see in 2019 tackling a van fire Photo: Bombers de Palma
WHILE revellers were toasting the start of 2019, Palma Fire Service started the New Year tackling a van fire before evacuating residents in ‘grave danger’ from an apartment block. The first call out of the year was to a field in Son Banya where a Transit vehicle had been set alight and was totally destroyed by fire. Within 24 hours, the fire service had posted at least six further tweets detailing incidents they had attended, including a ‘serious’ flat fire. Several residents at the apartment block in Palma suffered smoke inhalation and one received burns after a fire broke out on the first floor at around 8.30am this morning. A fire service tweet reveals the Cas Capiscol neighbours were in ‘grave danger’ with 13 needing medical attention at the scene and at Palma hospital. A number of crews were despatched to the blaze in Calle Dolors Montserrat, where they evacuated all of the neighbours, and needed ladders to help quell the flames on the first floor. The incident has prompted calls from Palma fire service for more troops, pointing out that the ‘bodies of security and rescue cannot be at the expense of limitations and cuts that endanger the security of the people’.
