THE parents of Gabriel Cruz have opened an area dedicated to their young son, who was found murdered last February in Almeria’s Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

Hundreds of people turned out for the inauguration of the ‘Whale’ area close to Almeria port on Saturday (29) afternoon.

Unveiling a plaque in memory of Gabriel, his mother Patricia Ramirez said the area “was a way of trying to give back to all of you the love you all give to us, and especially to children.”

The inauguration of the Whale area also marked the launch of the ‘Tide of Good People’ campaign to collect food, clothes and personal hygiene items for children, which runs until January 4. Marquees have been set up in the vicinity for handing in donations.

The girlfriend of Gabriel’s father Angel Cruz, Ana Julia Quezada, was arrested for the crime 12 days after the eight-year old disappeared.
