OFFICERS from the National Police have arrested a man in Velez Malaga for allegedly stealing nine tonnes of fruit from farms in Almayate.
Police claim the man, who has not yet been named, broke into 13 farms over a period of four years since 2014, stealing 9,397 kilos of fruit worth €26,926.
Following a string of burglary reports from farms in Almayate, police began to suspect the perpetrator could be a local man.
Officers say report he accessed the farms by jumping over fences or cutting through them before stealing fruit, most of which were avocadoes. The suspect allegedly confronted any owners who caught him in the act.
Police say the man carried out a total of 32 robberies across the 13 farms, sometimes stealing from one property twice in a day.
