SPAIN’S traditional holiday hotspots of Marbella on the Costa del Sol and Benidorm on the Costa Blanca are severe weather alerts for a soaking this week. The country’s national Met Office, AEMET, has placed both areas on yellow warnings for tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday – with the possibility they may be extended. On Wednesday, November 14, the provinces of Almeria (Levante, Valle del Almanzora and Los Vélez) and Malaga (Sol y Guadalhorce) in Andalucia are on alert, as are the Alicante and Valencia provinces of the Community of Valencia and also the region of Murcia (Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón, Vega del Segura, Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca and Águilas). On Thursday the warnings will remain in place with the addition of Girona and Tarragona in Cataluña and Castellon in the Community of Valencia. Forecasters say that up to 15 mm of rain could fall per hour in areas under a yellow alert.
