THE owners of a cat, who were stuck on a cruise ship in the middle of the Mediterranean when their precious puss went missing on the Costa Blanca, sent out a frantic SOS to the public for their help.
Their poor cat sitter had to break the news to them that Tigga had gone missing and hadn’t been back to his Albir home, near Benidorm, for food for three days.
The couple sent out an urgent distress call on social media and even roped in the Euro Weekly News to share it with our 30,000 Facebook followers.
Owner Sue Lewis told us: “We are distraught. Tigga never wanders. He has a collar with a blue round tracking device fitted and he is chipped.
“My cat sitter waited until Thursday morning to tell me as she didn’t want to spoil my cruise.
“It’s so frustrating when I’m in the middle of the ocean off the coast of bloody Morocco when my boy is lost!”
“We think that he has possibly jumped into workman’s van that was left open on the complex whilst they did work putting fibre optic and maybe they shut the door on him and accidentally driven off to wherever they went next!”
Sue said: “Joanne Bird who runs the Cats of APROP rescue centre, where we adopted him from, has been brilliant and forthcoming with loads of info about him. Obviously they are all concerned there as he was the star of the place! Everybody loved his antics!”
Tigga was fondly nicknamed ‘BadCat’ for his mischievous antics which they all loved.
On Sue’s return from her cruise she told us: “We’re back home now. But he’s definitely not around here – we’ve been all around the compound with his tracker – although it only tracks up to 150metres.
Then the yesterday (Monday) morning – out of the blue – an excited Sue contacted the EWN to say: “He’s back!!!!!”
“We left all entrances open, all lights on and went to bed. I couldn’t sleep and I heard a familiar miaow! I looked and his face appeared at the door! Maybe he did go away until we came back? I don’t know, but the tracker didn’t say he was around! We will never know. I’m just glad he’s safe and home.
Sue added: “OMG!!!!! Blubbing with relief and happiness!!! It’s 4.30 am and our boy has found his own way home!
“BadCat (alias Tigga) needed us – and we needed him! Just can’t get back to sleep, so going to sit in bed with Ron and Badcat and drink tea and cuddle him.
“A whopping thank you to all for all your comments, sharing, and concern for this amazing cat! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
“You’re all stars – and a great big thank you for all the media offers of help. You’ve all been amazing. Now we can drink tea, and cuddle our boy. xxxxx”
A happy ending to a lovely tale!
