Feminism is now a mainstream ideology in Spanish society according to new study

SPANISH women and men are increasingly embracing feminism and the ideology is now firmly established in the mainstream, according to a new study.
Figures from the CTXT study show that 58 per cent of women and 46 per cent of men in Spain identify as feminists.
CTXT said their findings showed the government had a task ahead of them as respondents had overwhelmingly backed laws such as making pay equal between men and women.
The survey of more than 1,000 Spanish people also found respondents aged between 18 and 24 are broadly in favour of using inclusive, gender neutral language.
One in favour of the women surveyed claimed they had suffered physical or sexual assault at some point in their lifetime.
A total of 8 per cent of those said they reported it, while 63.5 per cent of women said they had been harassed by a man physically or verbally.
More than three fifths of respondents said they believed there was inequality between men and women in Spain.
Almost 80 per cent of those surveyed said they thought women tended to be paid less than men for doing the same job.
A total of 90 per cent said companies should be legally required to equalise salaries for male and female staff.
Three out of four women said they believed that men would be uncomfortable having a female boss. Four out of ten men said they felt that way.
Nine out of ten respondents said women were more likely than men to be criticised for having an active sex life.
Seven out of ten men and about 77 per cent of women said they felt pornography promoted ‘macho’ culture. Almost 95 per cent said prostitutes should get some employment rights while 11.5 per cent said it should be banned outright.
The survey also asked the supporters of different political parties about feminism. More than 74 per cent of those supporting the leftist Podemos said they were feminists, compared to almost 57 per cent of those who back the left-leaning Partido Socialista (PSOE).
About 38 per cent of those who support the centrist Ciudadanos party said they were feminist. The equivalent figure for the conservative Partido Popular (PP) was 37 per cent.
