Almeria tapas route to tempt the taste buds

WIN-WIN: Foodies can try a selection of tapas and be in the running for prizes CREDIT: Huercal.Overa local council

THE EIGHTH edition of the Huercal-Overa Tapas Route initiative gets going today Friday November 11, giving foodies the opportunity to win prizes for trying a great selection of local bar snacks in many of the town’s eateries.
Revealing details of this year’s event, Huercal-Overa Mayor Domingo Fernandez said the aim of the annual culinary event is to “promote and motivate the catering trade, and to encourage people to get out.”
The Mayor invited all Huercal-Overa residents and visitors to “enjoy our tapas route, which will delight you with the great flavours of our land and which will be in the company of friends, companions and family.”
Fernandez also revealed that one of this year’s novelties will be a prize for best waiter or waitress in the participating establishments in recognition of the quality of the work of the professionals “who make our Tapas Route possible.”
The person trying most tapas will win a trip valued at 300€ and a bunch of goodies from a beer company. Second prize is a weekend stay for two in a rural hostal and beer products, third prize a set of professional knives and beer products, fourth prize annual membership to a sports club and a case of wine, while fifth place prize will also be a case of wine.
The beer company will also award two dinners to groups of a minimum of five persons who send in a photograph of themselves with a tapa and one of their beers to huercaolveraturismo@gmail.com: the local council will post the images on its Tourism and Culture Department Facebook page, the two gaining the most likes winning the dinners valued at 150€ each to be enjoyed in one of the participating establishments. Voting will be held from November 19 to 23.
The establishments taking part have been divided into four distinct areas, the different routes each identified by a colour. To participate in the draws it will be necessary to collect a minimum of 10 stamps, which have to be from at least two establishments in each area. Anyone managing to munch their way through enough tapas to qualify will be in the running for a 30€ petrol voucher and a case of wine.
Last year around 50,000 tapas were served over the Tapas Route week in more than 20 participating establishments, and this year that number could be even higher, the tapas on offer in some eateries including dishes suitable for celiacs.
The Tapas Route runs until November 18.
