A BRITISH couple has been arrested in Spain for alleged ‘child abandonment’ and leaving their new-born baby in hospital. National Police officers allege the newborn’s mother still wore a hospital gown after they were tracked down for fleeing the hospital grounds without their baby. Spanish police arrested the couple yesterday (Thursday) in the town of Fuente de Piedra, just a short distance away from Antequera hospital, where the newborn was abandoned. The National Police have said: “Officers have arrested a British man and woman on suspicion of a crime of child abandonment” “Yesterday afternoon police received an alert from Antequera Hospital informing them a woman had given birth during the night and had just left the hospital, leaving her child there without saying anything to medical staff. “An operation was mounted to find the baby’s parents, which ended with their arrests in Fuente de Piedra. “When she was arrested, the woman still had her hospital gown on.” It is believed that the couple are British expats in Spain, though this is yet to be confirmed as the National Police have not released the identities yet.
