Mayor of small Malaga town found dead on family farm

THE socialist mayor of small town in the Axarquia in the province of Malaga, Andalucia has been found dead on his family’s farm.
Police are investigating the death of Salvador Fernandez, mayor of El Borge, but say no signs of violence have been found and the results of an autopsy are pending.
The town, with a population of around 1,000, is in shock.
In a statement, PSOE Andalucia has expressed deep regret for the death and added that “in these difficult times, the solidarity and affection of all Andalucian socialists are with his family and their companions”.
As a sign of respect the group has suspended all public activities planned for today (Tuesday) throughout the autonomous community.
Susana Diaz, the PSOE president of the Junta de Andalucia, has also tweeted: “I cannot express in words the pain I feel when I heard about the death of my friend Salvador. I think of his family, his neighbours in El Borge, and I can’t imagine how they’ll be coping”.
