A 42-YEAR-OLD woman died yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) on the Costa Blanca after being run over by a drunk driver. The horrific incident happened at 3.37pm near La Zenia roundabout on the N-332 to Villamartín, Orihuela costa, according to Spanish media reports. Emergency services were called to the scene after being notified a woman had been hit by a vehicle, ‘dragged 20 metres’ and was unconscious. An Urgent Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) unit arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate the woman. However, their resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident, a 58-year-old Belgian woman, has since been detained. A breathalyser test showed the woman was three times over the drink drive limit and has subsequently been charged with reckless homicide. She is expected to appear in court today.
