WATCH: One of ‘most wanted’ men in Europe found hiding in kitchen cupboard in Spain

POLICE in Spain have arrested one of Europe’s most wanted fugitives, who had been on the run since 2006, when they found him hiding in a ‘secret’ kitchen unit.
Esteban Vacas Garcia, 49, who had been on Europol’s most wanted list for 12 years was discovered hiding in the kitchen of the home where he grew up.
He had been on the run since 2006 when he was convicted of raping his partner’s 15-year-old daughter and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
Police said a public appeal on Twitter in November 2016 yielded ‘positive results’ and officers eventually established that he was at an address in Salamanca, in the Castilla y León region.
In a statement the National Police said: “He was finally found in Salamanca, where he had been living in the family home where he grew up, only leaving the property on rare occasions and always in the early hours of the morning.
“Officers went to the property with a court order. Once there, they found that the fugitive had built a hiding place under the kitchen worktop in which to hide when the police arrived.”
“He repeatedly raped one of his partner’s daughter’s, who was 15 at the time, taking advantage of his position of authority and using both force and violence,” said the statement.
“He also threatened to kill her mother and sister if she told anyone about what had happened.”
