SCOOTER LOOTER: Man arrested for stealing 17 mobility aids from outside Benidorm hotels

A 46-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in Benidorm for using a master key to steal 17 mobility scooters from hotels in the area.
The mobility scooter rental business is booming in Benidorm and the accused man was allegedly capitalising on this business by stealing and selling on mobility scooters he found parked outside hotels.
National Police revealed they launched their investigation seven months ago after a spate of mobility scooters in the area were reported stolen.
The man is accused of stealing at least 17 mobility scooters valued at €23,000 euros.
National Police officers identified a very specific modus operandi after following the suspect perusing mobility scooters stationed outside of several Benidorm hotels.
The suspect used his master key on various models before making his escape on the stolen scooters.
The accused later changed each stolen scooters appearance with paint and stickers before placing the scooters for sale in various locations in Benidorm.
The investigation led to the arrest of the alleged offender, a 46-year-old man, who was found with seven mobility scooters in his possession, all seven had been reported stolen.
The man has been provisionally released from police custody awaiting trial.
