OFFICERS of the Guardia Civil have arrested a teenager who was running an online scam involving the purchase of second-hand products. An investigation began in August when police learned of several complaints that had been filed in Gijon and Velez-Malaga by customers who had been cheated out of their sales. The young man contacted the victims through instant messaging apps, agreeing on a price and meeting place to carry out the transaction. He would show the victims a screenshot of his bank statement indicating that he had sent through the payment, but this had been falsified. With close and detailed cooperation between the Guardia Civil and the National Police as part of operation “Parvulo 18,” the boy was identified and tracked down to Torrox. In a raid officers were able to recover bicycles, tablets, and mobile phones with a value of around €2,220.
