AT least five people have been killed and more than 15 injured after a bus they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a concrete viaduct. The horrific smash occurred in Asturia on the Aviles bypass at around 1.40pm, according to emergency services and the Guardia Civil. The cause of the crash is as yet unknown, but a police source said the ‘bus came off the road on the way to Asturias Airport and collided with a pillar’. The most seriously wounded have been transferred by helicopter to the Central Hospital of Asturias, in Oviedo, and others in several ambulances to San Agustin de Aviles. This afternoon, speed has been restricted considerably as emergency services clear the area and provide new accesses to Asturias Business Park and to the right sector of the Port of Aviles. The bus covered the route Cudillero, through Aviles to Gijon.
