A YOUNG man is in a serious condition after being crushed by a huge, 250-kilogram ball during a boloencierro run in Spain. The 29-year-old was taking part in the event held in the town of Mataelpino reported Emergencias 112 Comunidad de Madrid. Boloencierros have replaced traditional bull runs with live animals in some towns but can be just as dangerous. Emergency services said that the man had suffered a severe head injury and he was transferred to the Hospital de La Paz by air ambulance. The town mayor said that they will review safety arrangements for the event but the runner has stopped in a risk area for unknown reasons. Organisers say that participants, who must be over 16-years-old, should wear sports shoes and not run with a mobile phone trying to take selfie pictures or videos. They suggest lying down if runners cannot avoid the impact of the ball. The accident is being investigated by the Guardia Civil police.
