HOTEL HELL: The hotel in Hull and (inset) the writer of Benidorm, Derren Litten

BENIDORM’S hit TV comedy show writer, Derren Litten, has taken to Twitter to take a swipe at a hotel in the city of his birth and says it ‘makes The Solana look likes like The Ritz’.

The Solana hotel is the main setting for the comedy capers in the ITV sitcom Benidorm, set on Spain’s Costa Blanca.

After reports  of a fire at the four-star Britannia Royal Hotel in Hull recently he tweeted,  “I stayed there last year and it made The Solana look like The Ritz.

“Thank God The Hilton is finally open for my next trip to Hull.”

Derren is taking the live version of the Benidorm show to his hometown at the Hull New Theatre for a week from October 8 to October 13, and it looks as if he’s already decided where he’s staying.
