Thousands of runners take to city streets for Malaga 10K race

NEARLY 20,000 runners took part in the 39th ‘la Carrera Urbana Ciudad’ (Urban Street Race) in Malaga capital today (Sunday).

The 10km event was sponsored by car manufacturer Renault and the department store chain El Corte Ingles, and a ‘mini’ 4km event was also held.

The winners of the men’s and women’s category were both athletes from the Nerja Athletics Club. The victory marked the fifth consecutive win, and seventh overall, for Abdelhadi El Mouaziz from Morocco, and the second win for women’s champion Rebeca Garcia.

The route began on the Avenida de Andalusia and toured around all the major sites in the city centre, finishing on the Paseo del Parque.
