RAFAEL NADAL began his quest for a seventh title of the season with a dominating 6-2 6-1 victory over Jared Donaldson in his opening match of the Shanghai Masters.
The Spaniard, who secured his second China Open title last week, seemed to pick up where he left off as he won four consecutive games at the end of the set to power into a 6-2 lead.
Donaldson struggled to contain Nadal’s pace and power on serve and there was no let-up from the ruthless Spaniard as he took 13 points in a row to lead 3-0 in the second.
Nadal faced a shock upset at this stage of the tournament last year as he was dumped out by Viktor Troicki, but there was no hint of a repeat as he powered his way past the American and secured the second set 6-1.
The two-time Wimbledon champion will now face Fabio Fognini in the round of 16.
