POSITIVE STEPS: David has made good progress.

IT is just over a year since he was involved in a horrific motorbike accident which left him paralysed in all four limbs.

But after displaying remarkable courage over the last 12 months professional photographer David Toms today (Thursday) will move one step closer to home as he returns to southern Spain.

He will be housed in a fully-equipped private residence in Granada while his family and friends continue the search for a flat with 24-hour care in the Marbella-San Pedro area.

The good news comes as the David Toms Support Fund, which has raised almost €20,000 to date, launched a fresh appeal for donations after his move was confirmed, with the residence set to cost at least €2,500 per month.

Biking enthusiast David was on his way to deliver some photos when he hit a patch of sand dropped by a lorry and lost control before a car slammed into him.

He suffered grave spinal injuries that initially left him unable to breathe independently, but after six weeks in intensive care he was transferred from Malaga to a specialised spinal injury unit in Toledo.

Since then he has shown incredible resolve and has made strong progress, regaining some movement of his left leg and arm. And he will now continue his encouraging rehabilitation while he seeks suitable accommodation on the coast.
