The owl in friendly hands
OFFICERS of the Alhaurin de la Torre Civil Protection organisation were alerted to a small owl which was in distress in Huerta Alta.
The bird appeared to be trapped in a drain in the Parque Juan Pablo II and was unable to fly, although as was recognised to be a Little Owl which nests in the ground, it was thought that it may have become lost and confused whilst searching for its home.
Coming to the conclusion that this was a young and frightened bird, volunteers gently retrieved it and took it to the Centro de Recuperacion de Especies Amenazadas (CREA) in Malaga to allow it to recover from its ordeal.
The owl is said to be healthy and in good condition and will be released back into the wild in due course.
