WATCH: Brits in the sun laid bare in The Secret Life of the Holiday Resort

CHANNEL 4 TV’s new three-part series ‘The Secret Life of the Holiday Resort’ about the great British summer holiday has hit the small screen in the UK.

The programme takes a look at the great British holidaymaker abroad – at Holiday World Resort – the largest all-inclusive resort on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

From setting alarm clocks at 4am to get their towels on the sun loungers first  to consuming up to 6,000 calories a day at the all-you-can-eat buffet, it lays bare Brits taking a break in the sun. Some of the guests confess to urinating in the pools. 

Lion TV was commissioned by Channel 4 to make the three-part series about the great British summer holiday.

Filmed last summer when the UK voted to leave the EU, and when a record 10 million Brits flocked to Spain, the observational series was filmed during the busiest weeks of the season.

The series also follows the army of 5,000 staff and what it takes for them to keep 3,000 guests happy, serving up up to 4 tonnes of bacon, 5 tonnes of chips and 6,000 litres of beer a week.

Executive producer Lisa Edwards from Lion TV says ‘It’s been a fascinating summer to make a series like this – with the Brexit vote and fears about terrorism. The chance to observe British holiday makers in one of the biggest resorts on the Costa del Sol was an unmissable opportunity.

The programme will broadcast on Friday evenings at 8pm (UK time), starting 4 August on Channel 4.
