A 57-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in Puerto de la Torre after trying to run down a pensioner and two motorcyclists.
The Guardia Civil were called to Avenida Lope de Rueda after a 75-year-old man was forced to take refuge behind a telephone pole to avoid being crushed under the car of the accused.
According to police sources the man showed up at his ex-wife’s home, who had taken out a restraining order against him, but was unable to find her. Upon leaving the scene, he spotted the pensioner leaving a nearby chemist and began to ram him with his vehicle.
According to an eyewitness account, the accused attacked him three times with his car, hitting a nearby property with such force that the gate came off its hinges.
“If he didn’t hide behind the telephone pole, he would be dead,” explained the witness.
The victim explained that in the past the two had disagreed on multiple occasions.
“He said that he had come to kill him, and explained that the same person had come to his home and threatened him with a knife just weeks ago,” added the witness.
During the police chase the accused knocked two victims off their motorcycle, however neither were seriously injured.
The older victim has been transferred to hospital after sustaining injuries to his arms and legs, while the accused has been transferred to the provincial police station to await justice.
