Ángel María Villar with La Liga trophy
IN an investigation that has formally been declared secret, the Guardia Civil have arrested Ángel María Villar, Chairman of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The news has however been released that his arrest is in connection with research into alleged criminal activities within the management of the RFEF.
Also arrested were his son as well two officials from the Tenerife Football Federation.
It is believed that Villar, who is also a FIFA vice president, arranged certain matches between the Spanish National team and others using his son, a sports lawyer, to negotiate deals including sponsorship contracts.
Enquiries are also taking place with regards to the possible misappropriation of funds from the Tenerife Federation.
