Gin – the hayfever hinderance

FOR MOST people summer is a joyous time filled with woodland walks and terrace drinking, but for most hayfever sufferers all it brings are wild fits of sneezing.

According to a recent study conducted by Asthma UK, opting for a gin and tonic during the summer months can prove a wise move.

Alcoholic beverages like wine, beer and cider contain high levels of histamine and sulphites to preserve the drinks. Sufferers of asthma and hayfever are often triggered by these compounds, replacing their cheery buzz with a less appealing coughing frenzy.

Due to the low levels of preservatives in clear spirits, a Gin and tonic offers both a refreshing taste and a safer alternative to traditional summer drinks.

So, with a gin and tonic in hand, people with hayfever can take comfort in the knowledge that summer, and all its wonderful activities, can finally be theirs too.
