Top tips for sleepless nights

HOT and sunny weather is all well and good until you want to get a good night’s sleep. Luckily we’ve got a few tips for when the sweltering insomnia kicks in.

Avoid drinking alcohol. Alcohol sweats and hot weather form a cocktail best left at the bar. Choose water over beer, as its best to stay hydrated during the summer months.

Take a cool shower before bed. Lowering your body temperature before you try and sleep will help keep the sticky sweats at bay.

Use a hot water bottle. Just avoid the hot water. Fill your water bottle up with cold water, and stick it in the freezer a couple hours before hitting the sack.

Use an iced fan. Chill a couple bottles of water and place them in a bowl in front of your fan. The frozen bottles will cool the air as it circulates the room.

Opt for a light meal. Avoid heavy carbohydrates before sleeping as the body will continue to digest them into the night, which creates a higher internal temperature.
