The thief, checking to see no-one was watching him
A MAN has been caught on CCTV stealing a charity collection tin from a bar in Mijas Costa
Bridges Bar was hosting a P.A.D Charity Quiz when the man reached over the counter and stole the tin.
The quiz night organiser, Jack Watson, told Euro Weekly News he “can’t understand the mentality” of someone who would do this.
Although it isn’t known how much was in the tin, Jack said it was “nearly full” and usually there is €40-€50 in coins from Bridges Bar.
CCTV footage shows the man waiting for staff to serve on the terrace before stealing the tin, and then finished his coffee before leaving.
Jack hopes that by getting the word out bars will “keep an eye on their tins in the future” as thefts have been becoming more common in the area.
President of the Mijas animal charity P.A.D, Lisa Emeny, told the EWN:
“I cannot believe the level some people will sink to. To steal a charity tin really leaves me speechless.
“We need every cent we collect in our tins. I hope he is named and shamed and at least people will be aware if he comes into their bar!”
Despite the thief’s actions, the quiz night raised €382, bringing the total amount raised in quizzes at Bridges Bar to €2,656 since January 2017.
Another regular quiz goer has also promised to donate €50 to P.A.D when she returns from the UK after she heard the news.
