Woman shot dead by ex-partner in Granada

A 55-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, Encarnacion Garcia, has been shot dead by her ex-partner in Las Gabias, nine kilometres from the Granada capital.

At approximately 4:30am, the man in question had arrived at Garcia´s residence, on calle Bolivia, and proceeded to kill her with a shotgun in front of her son. The 52-year-old attacker then fled the scene to his house in Granada.

The son, a 24-year-old man with an unspecified mental disability, contacted a neighbour who then alerted the Guardia Civil. According to his testimony, the presumed murdered was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident.

“My sister told me that she was happy with him, and that he was very good to her. I don’t understand what was going on in his head for him to do this,” he said.

According to relatives and neighbours, there was no evidence of any problems between the couple. Miguel Calero, brother to the victim, has said that there are “so many bad people out there” after divulging his sister had suffered with both physical and psychological disabilities.

Shortly after the police investigation began, the murderer turned himself to the Guardia Civil in and confessed.

The City Council have decreed three days of official mourning.
