BRITISH AIRWAYS is suffering from a global systems issue which has thrown bank holiday weekend travel plans into chaos.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “We apologise to customers who are facing some delays following an IT outage this morning. We are working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.”

It comes as thousands of British holidaymakers head abroad for the half-term school holidays, with travellers unable to check in via the carrier’s mobile app.

Some took to social media to voice their frustration, with one passenger tweeting: “British airways computers down T5 and standstill, stranded on the plane and they make us pay for food!! Please retweet this indecency [sic]!”

Another wrote: “@British_Airways We are on the runway.. For hour now..no offer of drinks..and because ba only takes cards now, we only have cash…wat we supposed to do!!??”

The latest misery comes just a day after bedlam erupted at Gatwick airport with long queues forming due to a problem with the baggage handling system, with many travelling on Friday forced to do so without their hold luggage.
