Royal Anglian Regiment exercises Honorary Freedom of the City

HM Government of Gibraltar
Mayor Lopez takes the salute

WHEN Gibraltar granted the Honorary Freedom of the City to the Royal Anglian Regiment it may not have expected The Sun newspaper to take an interest.

However, when members of the Regiment marched through Gibraltar last Saturday, The Sun jumped upon the traditional march past to take a swipe at what it referred to as ‘Greedy Spain’.

Whilst the joint march comprising of the Royal Anglians and the Band of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment took place before former Miss World and now City Mayor Kaiane Lopez, the British tabloid used the event to promote its support of British Gibraltar.

The British Regiment has links going back many years with Gibraltar through earlier incarnations of the regiment and today includes the Castle of Gibraltar in its cap badge whilst working closely with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment.
