Axeman taken down in Las Palmas

WHEN a man in Las Palmas attacked a car with an axe in a local street, officers of the National Police rushed to the scene.

They spotted the individual with the axe in his hand just a few metres away from the car that had a broken window and a scared occupant.

Officers told him to drop the weapon but he wandered down the street occasionally threatening them and he even appeared to advance on one of the officers who hastily retreated.

Eventually, an alert officer circled around him and brought him down whilst colleagues quickly disarmed and handcuffed him before taking him to a medical centre where he was diagnosed as needing psychiatric help.

The entire operation was filmed by the Air Media Service of the National Police of Gran Canaria.
