ONE of the cyclists hit by a drunk driver in Costa Blanca has died, bringing the death toll up to three.
Jose Antonio Albi Valero was unable to recover from his injuries, and passed away at the La Fe de Valencia Hospital on Thursday (May 11) according to the Javea council.
The tragedy comes just days after thousands paid their respects at the funeral of another who was killed in the incident.
Eduardo Monfort’s hearse was escorted by hundreds of cyclists from across the region to the San Bartolome Church in Javea.
It was revealed that the driver who mowed down the cyclists, Mavi SC, was handed a four-year ban for drink driving in 2013 and had not taken a ‘re-education course,’ meaning she was also driving without a licence.
She has been denied bail and faces charges for manslaughter, GBH and dangerous driving.
Andres Contreras, son of Luis Alberto who died at the scene, and Scott Gordon remain fighting for their lives in hospital.
