Guardia Civil bring a halt to crime spree in Madrid

A BUNCH of habitual criminals suspected of being responsible for more than 100 robberies have been arrested in Mostoles a suburb of Madrid.

According to the Guardia Civil who made the arrests, just four Spaniards aged between 19 and 44, with long criminal records, were involved and they were prolific in breaking into commercial properties, stealing vehicles, mobile phones and other goods.

They are suspected of stealing at least 30 luxury vehicles in just three months, a number of which they used in night time sorties on premises that they had chosen as likely targets.

Following the arrests, officers discovered several stolen vehicles, some with false number plates, fake ID, large numbers of mobile phones and phone cards, coin dispensers, tools used to enter premises and to start cars as well as €5,000 in cash.

Remanded in custody prior to trial, the four are accused of a number of criminal offences, including theft, robbery with violence and possession of fake documentation.
