The Pinar del Rio boat being towed following the crash
A FERRY has crashed into one of Malaga Port’s docks, causing the Melilla-Malaga route to be closed.
It is believed a steering malfunction led to the Pinar del Rio boat to smash into the Levante Dock, in the ADL zone, according to the Port Authority.
Witnesses said minutes after the impact, two stowaways jumped into the water to escape. They, along with five others found inside the ship, were detained by police.
None of the 143 passengers or crew were harmed in the crash, although the ferry suffered damages to its hull.
Balearia has diverted their routes to Algeciras while repairs are carried out to the Malaga dock.
